The DR02 is a research grade normal incidence direct solar irradiance sensor (also known as a pyrheliometer). It complies with ‘First Class’ classification, as per the latest ISO and WMO standards. Unique product features include the fast response time and a heated window. DR02 is used in tracker mounted operation. It is intended for short-wave direct solar irradiance in particular in relation to solar energy applications.

DR02 has been developed in particular for monitoring in relation to utilisation of solar energy. Because of its fast response time, it is ideally suited for PV application, where it will match the response time of the panels more closely than other types.
The DR02 also features a thermally isolated low power window/lens heater in the foreoptic; when cycled on/off prior to sunrise the heater effectively eliminates the formation of dew on the pyrheliometer window/lens, thus resulting in improved post sunrise early morning measurement accuracy. Determining direct solar irradiance with the DR02 requires connection to a data acquisition device with a measurement resolution of ten microvolts or better, and an autonomous two-axis solar tracker platform. Each DR02 is calibrated upon manufacture and delivered standard with a WRR (World Radiometric Reference) traceable certificate of calibration.
